Markha Valley Trek

: July till mid September
One of the popular treks in Ladakh over 2 passes, Ganda La (4970 m) and
the Kongmaru La (5250 m). Following meandering Markha river system,
basking on the high grassy plains of Nimaling with the majestic presence
of Mt. Kang Yatze (6400 m) and passing through beautiful villages and old
monasteries along the trail. Markha Valley trek gives you an exhilarating
experience of Ladakh. Enroute one might find ibex, blue sheep, marmots,
foxes and a rare possibility of finding snow leopard! |

| Day 4 |
LEH / SPITUK / ZINCHEN (3600 m) TREK STARTS |

We drive 10 km to Spituk from where we
start our trek. We cross Indus river and enter in the Valley of Zinchen
river. Near the village in the Valley we will have our first camp after
5-6 hr walk. |

ZINCHEN / YURUTSE (4200 m) |

After about 3 hr walk we
reach at Rumbak village, cross the small stream and later in the afternoon
we arrive at Yurutse. Walk about 2 km ahead of the village and camp. Total
5-6 hr walk |

YURUTSE / GANDA LA / SHINGO (4200 m) |

The first Pass, Ganda
La (4950 m), which we reach after 1 1/2 hrs. From here we have a view to
the Zanskar range and the Valley. While descending we pass a small
village nearby where we camp. 5-6 hr. |

We descend through the
beautiful gorge to Skiu village alongside Markha river. 6-7 hr. |

SKIU / MARKHA (3600 m) |

Always along Markha
river, which we have to cross some time. En route we see beautiful
chortens. 6-7 hr. |

| Day 9 |
MARKHA / HANKAR (4200 m) |

The village of Hankar
is the highest village in Markha Valley and the last before Nimaling
plateau. Mt Kang Yatze (6400 m) slowly rises in front of us as we
continue walking to Hankar. 6-7 hr. |

HANKAR / NIMALING (4750 m) |

Beyond Hankar the trail
leaves Markha river, ascending gradually to vast Nimaling Plateau,
presided by the magnificent Mt Kang Yatze snow mountain. 4-5 hr. |

| Day 11 |
NIMALING / SUMDO (3660 m) |
 |

|
|
Today we reach the
highest point on our trek, 5150 m (Kongmaru La) where we arrive in about
2-3 hrs from our camp. A steep descent follows after the Pass, later
through the gorge, and the valley slowly opens us as we arrive in
Zanskar Sumdo to camp. 7-8 hr. |

SUMDO / HEMIS(3550 m) / LEH |

We reach Hemis
Monastery where our trek ends, 3-4 hr. Hemis is the most important
monastery of Ladakh, 360 years old. The gigantic Tankha, one of the
largest in the world, is displayed once in 12 years. Last was in 1992.
We visit the monastery and drive 40 km/ 1 hr to Leh to our hotel. |

Drive 210 km to Agra.
En route visit Sikandara, the mausoleum of Akbar. Upon arrival proceed
for sightseeing, visiting Itmad-ud-Daula's Tomb and world famous Taj
Mahal, built by Shah Jehan in the memory of his beloved wife Mumtaj
Mahal. It took 22 years and 20,000 people to build the Taj Mahal. |

| Sightseeing of City
