LADAKH WITH LAMAYURU – ALCHI

Fly to leh. The spectacular 75 minutes flight gives you one of the best
panorama of the Great Himalaya. Soon you are at Leh, the city rustic and
beautiful. Buddhist prayer flags ever where enhance the spiritual and
the scenic beauty of this Buddhist land. You are now at an altitude of
11000 feet. So its time to reach your hotel and rest to get
acclimatized. Day at leisure.

| Day 2 |

Day to make a few local
sorties but on jeep visits to a few monasteries and the Leh Palace.
Visit the fort, which was once the home to the royal family of Ladakh. A
strategic fort that looks like emerging from the ground itself. Also
visit the small allays and lanes in the surroundings of the fort and the
mosque.
Without over exerting you visit the locality.

Day to visit Shey fort
and monastery, Thiksey monastery and the sabu village and Stok Palace
that is the present home to the royal family of Ladakh.

| Day 4 |
Leh – Lamayuru |
 |
|
|
Drive 4 hours to Lamayuru passing through some of the most spectacular
high altitude deserts. Driving along the Indus River you witness the
beautiful mountain ranges with a variety of clours and patterns of
formations of thee mountains. Today you are the ‘Moon Land’ Getting its
name from the strange formation of soil around the Lamayuru monastery.
Explore the monastery and the village.

| Day 5 |
Lamayuru-Wanlah (3-4hrs) |

Cross a small pass called
the Prinkiti La (3750 mts) on the first day of your trek. Trek down
through a narrow gorge till the Shilakong Valley and continue till Wanlah
(3250 mts) where you camp for the night. The village and Monaestery at
Wanlah can be visited in the evening.

Wanlah-HinjuValley (4-5hrs) |

Trek on an easy
motorable trail till Phanjila Village and then turn into the Hinju
Valley and ascend till beyond Hinju Village where we camp for the night.
Hinju is the base camp for the pass that follows on the next day.

| Day 7 |
Hinju-Konze-La-Camp (6-7hrs) |

|
Trek through high
altitude pasteurs and begin the ascend to the top of the pass which
allows splendid views of the Hinju Valley. There have been many reports
of Snow Leopard and Blue Sheep spotting on this day. The top of the
Konze La (4950 mts) is a photographic delight with views of many
Himalayan Ranges which include the Karakorams, Ladakh and Stok
Mountains. A steep descent from the pass gets you to a camp site used by
sheperds in the summer months.

Camp-SumdoChoon (5-6hrs) |

Trek past the village
of Sumdo Chinmu to Sumdo Choon (4400 mts). In the Ladakhi language Sumdo
means confluence. Sumdo Choon is a smaller village than Sumdo Chinmu and
has a samll Gompa which boasts of a large statue and ancient wall
paintings.

SumdoChoon-Satpski-La-Alchi (5-6hrs) |

Leave after an early breakfast so that the hard initial walking is finished with
before the Sun gets too strong. Trek again through green pasteurs to the top of
the Stapski La Pass (4970 mts). From the top of the Pass then descent till Alchi
takes about three hours. Visit the ancient Gompa at Alchi and then drive down to
our permanent camp at Ule Tokpo (1 1/2 hrs). Hot water and a farewell dinner
await you at camp.
